GUN SHY ASSASSIN/ TIMO ELLIS PICKS THREE MUST SEE MOVIES

“The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie” (Luis Bunuel, 1972)

In my top five of all time. An expertly fragmented surrealist adventure featuring the great Fernando Rey in an unsuccessful quest to have dinner with his blithely corrupt associates; by turns scathing, silly, and ruminative.

I love Bunuel’s gleeful disregard for narrative convention while maintaining tonal and emotional continuity (and in this case while also unflinchingly skewering middle class social values and politics!)
